A Regular Labs plugin that opens links in modal popups (lightboxes): text, articles, internal and external pages, images and videos. Links are picked by tag, class or URL.
Modals is a plugin from the Dutch studio Regular Labs that turns ordinary links on a Joomla site into popup windows over the page. It is used for enlarging photos, playing videos, or showing promo terms or a form without leaving the current page.
Features
- A modal can show text, an article, an internal or external page, an image, a video or a menu item.
- A dedicated tag such as
{modal url="..."}Link text{/modal}and an editor button to insert it. - Automatic link conversion: by CSS class, all external links, links with
target="_blank", links to given file types, or by URL match, regular expressions included. - Window dimensions and styling are set in the options and via CSS.
- The PRO edition adds automatic image galleries and slideshows with thumbnails, and popups that open on page load or after a delay.
Compatibility
Supports Joomla 4, 5 and 6. The current version is 17.0.0, last updated in JED on 13 September 2026. Free and PRO editions are available.
