Attach files and links to Joomla articles: upload from the back end, the front end or right inside the editor, with flexible viewing rights and a secure storage mode.
Attachments adds a list of attached files or external links to Joomla articles and other content. It is handy for documentation, news items with supporting documents and intranet portals. The original author is Jonathan Cameron; community contributors Jean-Luc and Theofilos ported it to Joomla 4, 5 and 6.
Features
- Add, edit and delete attachments in the administrator, on the front end and in the article editor, including while a new article is being created.
- Attach URLs as well as files.
- A set of options that controls who can see attachments.
- Changes to the attachment list apply without a full page reload.
- "Secure" mode: files are stored in a protected way and cannot be opened without logging in.
- One installation archive: the component and every plugin go in at once, and upgrading over an older version is supported.
Compatibility
- Joomla 4, 5 and 6; the 3.2.6 branch remains for Joomla 3.
- Current version 6, last updated in JED on 9 November 2025.
- To uninstall, remove "Package: Attachments for Joomla" in the Extension Manager; this removes the component and its plugins.
