An XML sitemap generator for Joomla that crawls the site through an external service like a regular visitor, so pages of any extension are picked up without extra plugins.
Sitemap Generator by Marco Beierer builds sitemap.xml differently from most extensions: instead of reading the database, it crawls the site from the developer's servers. As a result the sitemap covers pages of any component while the load on the hosting stays low, which matters on shared hosting.
Features
- Generation starts with a button under Components → Sitemap Generator; the result is saved as sitemap.xml in the site root.
- robots.txt is respected, crawl-delay included; the crawler identifies itself as MB-SiteCrawler.
- The noindex robots meta tag is honoured.
- Indexable files such as PDF, XLS and DOC are added to the sitemap.
- Updates through the standard Joomla update system.
Limitations
- Free for up to 500 URLs, and non-indexable addresses count towards the limit. The paid version raises it to 50,000 URLs and adds image and video sitemaps.
- An existing sitemap.xml is overwritten without a prompt, so back it up first.
- Only the site address and the fact that it runs Joomla are sent to the external server.
- Any user allowed into the administrator can generate the sitemap.
Compatibility
- Joomla 6 according to JED; not tested on Windows hosting.
