A system plugin by Michael Richey for cookie consent: a notice on the first visit, Accept and Decline buttons, mandatory options and a link to revisit the choice later.
EU e-Privacy Directive by Michael Richey (RicheyWeb) is meant for sites that have to tell visitors about cookies and third-party services and collect their consent. Earlier releases blocked every cookie until explicit permission and shipped as a plugin plus a module. The current branch is a rewrite: a single system plugin based on implied consent, where services run unless the visitor opts out.
Features
- On the first visit a notice offers a choice: accept everything or decline non-essential options.
- A Privacy Settings link reopens the dialog at any time so the decision can be changed.
- Every consent option has an info icon explaining its purpose; necessary functions can be marked as mandatory, visible but not switchable.
- Texts are changed through standard Joomla language overrides.
- Two display styles, a Bootstrap 5 alert or a Bootstrap 5 modal, selected in the plugin options.
- Companion plugins handle Google Tag Manager consent, the Global Privacy Control header and the Do Not Track header; an API lets other extensions add their own consent checkboxes.
Compatibility
JED lists Joomla 3, 4, 5 and 6; the catalogue tracks Joomla 4, 5 and 6. The current version is 5.0.8, last updated in JED on 28 January 2026.
