A plugin for short menu item URLs: a nested item gets an address with its own alias only, without the aliases of its parent items. Developed by AlterBrains.
In Joomla, the URL of a nested menu item is assembled from a chain of aliases: the parent item first, then the child. On sites with a deep menu tree the addresses get long, and the core only lets you edit the alias itself, not how the URL is built from it. The Direct Alias plugin by AlterBrains adds extra URL modes to menu items.

- The mode is set for specific menu items; all other URLs are built as usual.
Compatibility
Joomla 5 and 6. Current version 4.0.0, updated in JED on 23 October 2025. On a site that is already indexed, changing URLs calls for redirects from the old addresses, otherwise search engines will run into 404 errors.
